All eyes are turning towards the build-up to the Nov 30th day of action. Unions are in the process of setting up their ballots for industrial action on the day - we call for the maximum vote for strike action and are confident that we will see this happen. But the action needs to be widened to have maximum effect. All workers must be involved to send a clear message.
Below is the text of a resolution sent to the Cambridge Trades Council - we think that it represents a good template for other resolutions to go to trades councils etc.
The text reads:
This Trades Council notes:
That PCS, NUT, ATL and UCU have a mandate to strike and other public sector unions have called for a ballot of their members to take industrial action on November 30th
This Trades Council believes:
That coordinated strike action is a major step in the fight against the Coalition government
That the attack on pensions is linked with the cuts, job losses and austerity measures being carried out by the Coalition as a result of the crisis of capitalism
That a 24 hour public sector strike is a starting point and a move toward a 24 hour General Strike
That the strike action needs a coherent strategy and should be controlled by the rank and file
That pensions are a political issue, linked to the distribution of wealth and the exploitation of working class people
That the fight for pensions should not split public and private sector and that we should demand a decent pension for all
This Trades Council resolves:
To coordinate action on November 30th with trade union branch industrial/strike committees and local Trades Councils.
To fight for rank and file control of the strike and plans for the future.
To coordinate meetings with cross union industrial/strike committees to plan for November 30th and beyond
To coordinate with industrial action/strike committees to hold a march and rally in one of the county towns on November 30th
To coordinate with cross union industrial action/strike committees and hold a meeting on 30th November with local activists, taking motions and debating the way forward for possible future action.
To coordinate with industrial action/strike committees create a bulletin for use by trade union branches and the public, arguing for a Yes vote in the ballot and outlining the reasons for industrial action
To campaign on ‘Decent Pensions For All’, uniting the public and private sector and pensioners
To argue for a ballot of those not on strike on 30th November
