Civil servants strike tommorow against Gordon Brown's attacks on public sector pay. While many of those striking earn less than the European minimum, Brown pays out twenty times the average civil servants wage to private consultants. This underlines the need for PCS members to keep the union a fighting one, by electing Left Unity candidates to the next NEC.

On friday PCS, the civil servants trade union, published the results of a survey of candidates in the upcoming local elections. The results showed support for the unions demands, exposing the Blairite leadership as out of touch with the views of the Labour Party rank-and-file. Tommorow 200,000 civil servants will take strike action to defend jobs and protect public services.

After the biggest civil service strike in UK history earlier this year, 200,000 civil servants will once again take industrial action on May 1st, continuing their campaign to save jobs, defend pay and protect services.

The RMT is campaigning hard to defend Section 12 of the fire precautions act that was recommended following the Kings Cross Fire of 1985. The government is determined to water down the legislation, which the efforts by RMT-sponsored MP's has thus far prevented.

Earlier this year workers at SIMCLAR of Irving, Ayrshire, were told that the electronics plant would be closed with immediate effect. Despite orders being on the books the bosses showed no shame in dismissing the entire workforce. Members of the COMMUNITY trade union responded with a campaign to save their jobs, including occupation of the plant.

An international appeal has been launched demanding the unconditional withdrawal of the Power 8 plan and the nationalisation of Airbus-EADS, without compensation to the big shareholders.

have reacted with anger to the announcement on 28 February of the axing of
10,000 jobs at its plants in Europe as part of
its "Power 8" plan. Following the announcement, Airbus workers responded with
walk-outs and stoppages in France and Germany.

Workers at ITN, the
company that provides news for ITV1 and Channel 4, have forced their management
to compromise on their controversial proposal to cut pensions and extend the
retirement age from 60 to 65.
This comes after unionised staff voted for two 24-hour strikes in response to what were felt intolerable impositions from management.
