Rank and File protestors started things off
nicely at the crack of dawn at the Pinnacle - 300 or so lads from Newcastle and Liverpool
travelled down leaving early hours, some at midnight. There were a few
scuffles with the cops but we eventually blocked off Bishopsgate. We
then headed to 2 sites nearby at Cannon Street, Crown House and Grattes - part of the rogue 7. Then off to Farringdon. Police were out in force due
to the students protests in London later that day.
We then marched to the Shard at London Bridge
where more workers were waiting - Unite were out in force from around the country. We heard speeches from Len McCluskey, Harry Cowap and others who assured us they were behind the
rank and file action - time will tell. When the battle starts in December after
ballot results are in we hope
they are true to their word. From the Shard we marched to the Blackfriars site, run by Balfour Beatty - the main instigator behind the new agreement.

There were more
speeches here - Vince Passfield and Steve Kelly who gave a thunderous speech and let Balfour Beatty know we weren't having the new contracts and demanded an end to
blacklisting, Unite must back the
fight against blacklisting and told the bosses in no uncertain terms that we weren't
going away and would be back every week until we get our agreements back.
Next it was Westminster to lobby mps, although many decided to join the students who were also marching thru the City. We
were stopped by the police and it got quite violent - trunchens came out with
many protestors getting battered by police and kettled for 2 hours. This shows who the police are protecting now, the state and the bosses are no
friends of the workers. It was reminscent of the miners strike and other
disputes. The battle is on and it will get heavier in the coming weeks,
especially if Balfour Beatty workers vote to take industrial action.
We must prepare
for this showdown and arm ourselves against the police. All in all a
great day of action - Unite are calling for another day of action on 7th December, weekly protests must continue til then and beyond if necessary
together - united we can win.
