How many times have we heard that Marx was wrong and that although he had some insights in to the workings of capitalism he failed to see the dynamism of the capitalist system and its ability to recover from crises and move ever forward? However, in the past few years, every now and then we hear commentators pointing out that Marx was right. The latest is an article published by Time magazine, called "Marx’s Revenge: How Class Struggle Is Shaping the World".

To mark the 130th anniversary of the death of Karl Marx – who died in London on 14th March 1883 - we are republishing here a revised version of an article by the late Phil Mitchinson. I learned of the death of Arthur Deane last Saturday, as I was on my way to the National Conference of Socialist Appeal. It was a sad moment for me and brought back many memories of my early days in the Trotskyist Movement.
