The government of Hugo
Chavez has been re-elected many times over and has the popular backing of the
masses in the cities and the countryside. The reforms the Venezuelan govt have made, struggling to lift its
population out of poverty, has solved many social problems through the utilisation
of the national oil wealth.
The gains
of the revolution are still under threat from forces within Venezuela but also
from outside. The United States still
seeks to interfere in the democratic process and wants to see a return to the
old days when Washington ruled the Venezuelan economy via its local
stooges.
The attempted Coup against the
govt in 2002 was a direct warning that the US would not tolerate the gains which
have been made by the people of Venezuela and this struggle continues today.
No Volveran is
a passionate movie! It is the latest
chapter in a battle that has been waged for decades, if not centuries.
It is the struggle between a small nation to
define its own destiny and an imperialist beast which wants to regain control. A real David and Goliath story!
